Thousand Islands

The Thousand Islands Bridge

Tennis Island North is on the southeast side of Wellesley Island overlooking Alexandria Bay, Boldt Castle and the Boldt Castle Boat House. This section of Wellesley Island was originally part of George Boldt's farms to support his Waldorf Astoria and Bellview-Stratford Hotels. It was also part of his romantic plan to build a Rhineland-style castle for his wife, Louise.

The protected yacht harbor has slips for property owners and guests. From the balconies and decks of the Casali Cottage you can see large ocean-going and Great Lakes vessels silently navigating the American Channel of the St. Lawrence.

Nearby towns and parks include: City of Clayton, Rockport (Canada), Alexandria Bay, Thousand Islands Park, Keewaydin Point State Park, Point Vivian, Westminster Park, Mary Island State Park, Waterson Point Park, St. Lawrence Park, Dewolf Point State Park, and Thousand Island Park.

The Thousand Islands offers some of the most scenic, unspoiled areas in North America.  Clean water and clean air in these scenic 1,800 islands is a treasure to be protected. According to Algonquian tribal legend, Manitou, the Great Spirit, said to the Indians: "I will give you paradise, if you will stop fighting." The Indians did not stop fighting. Manitou put paradise into a bag and threw it to the horizon. The bag broke apart and a thousand pieces fell down on to the St. Lawrence River, creating the Thousand Islands.

The St. Lawrence River features great fishing, wonderful history, and quaint towns and villages for both residents and visitors. Many photographers and artists take advantage of the wonderful scenery. The Thousand Islands has abundant wildlife such as world-record muskies, white-tail deer, bald eagles, great northern pike, and many more native species.  It is often called a sportsman's paradise.

The area transports you back to a simpler, unspoiled era, far from the hustle and bustle of crowded urban life. The St. Lawrence and The Thousand Islands make for a relaxing, unhurried experience.
